Improving the overall functionality of your home is a huge opportunity to enhance your comfort, safety, and energy performance. Moreover, it can increase your home’s value and make it more attractive when the time comes to sell it. There are plenty of benefits that an update, home addition, or renovation can provide. However, many myths and misconceptions on home improvement may hinder what you should or shouldn’t do when taking up a project. And believing in them could result in a less-than-satisfactory outcome of the task. To help you get rid of misleading information improving your home, Best Handy Hubby Renovation and Painting Services have debunked three of the most widely believed myths about home improvement.

Myth 1: Tiles need to be regrouted frequently
Often, a client feels they need their tiles regrouted. This is not usually the case. Possibly, there is one place where the grout is missing or worn through. But, most of the grout is typically just dirty. The dirty surface of the grout can be taken off with a thin scraping using a grout file. The result is a new-looking tiled floor or bathroom tiled surface. For a more lasting result, we can use a grout sealer. Oddly, grout sealer is seldom used by a professional tiler unless the client specifically requests it.

It is easy to bring out a grout file from my toolbox and show the client the potential results in seconds. If the client prefers to do the grout filing on their own rather than use a more expensive handyman service, that is an excellent way to save money and get remarkable results!

Myth 2: LED lighting isn’t worth the money
Use LED replacement lights when possible. It is not always possible; but, the industry is quickly catching up with the times! An LED light can easily last ten times as long as a good quality incandescent light or halogen type light, making that change pay for itself quickly.

Myth 3: Wooden fences don’t last
This myth exists because, like most homeowners, you neglect the maintenance of your wooden fence. When you scrape and repaint it every couple of years, you will get the fence that looks the way you want. However, If you are getting a replacement wood fence made, find out the construction details. Ask to see a sample if there is one. Ask for a reference(s). Fence builders typically find ways to construct the fence less expensively, resulting in a fence that does not stand the test of time! If you are given a reference, take the time to knock on the door and confirm that your contractor actually built the referenced fence. Amazingly often, a contractor provides addresses for references of fences that were built by completely different companies.
